Job Opportunities
Positions currently open: Senior Travel Agent - 40 hour/week, from 7:00 till 15:30 Monday to Friday
With the recent growth of our company, we wish to expand our office team with one or two extra travel agents. Travel Agents communicate directly with our overseas clients, and are basically the sales people in our company. They use their personal skills, coupled with their destination knowledge, to convince clients they want their holiday organised by us. While this sounds easy, it isn't. In our experience, for someone to start working with us it can easily take up to 6 months to a year before they can deal with clients independently. Anyone starting with us will embark on an extensive in house training program to get to know how the company protocols work, how to sell the company's USP's to clients, and learn everything there is to know about the roughly 160 destinations we offer.
Experience in the travel industry is not required, we are looking for hard workers with a good set of brains and, due to the long training, that after the 3 months probation period can commit for at least two years working with us. This job must thus be a career choice, not just a job because you need a job. We will also consider non-South Africans for this position, and can assist in acquiring a suitable visa. For St. Lucia standards, we pay very well, and have day care facilities and nannies on site for young children.

remuneration
You don't move to St. Lucia, South Africa, for the money. Salaries are considerably lower than in Europe. And while cost of living is also a lot cheaper, luxury items (a car, a holiday, a house) are not that much cheaper. In general 'purchasing power' is less here than in Europe.
However, life is not about money, it is about quality of living. No traffic jams, being able to enjoy a walk on a deserted sub tropical beach every morning, even before you pull in at the office. And in the afternoon after work, being able to go on a safari looking for rhino and elephants, or mountainbike between zebra and warthogs. Enjoying the simple things in life, friendship in a small village where almost everyone knows each other. Feeling at home in a natural environment, where it is almost always nice warm weather, where the daily conversations are not always about what happened in the news the day before.
For St. Lucia standards, we pay our co-workers very well, allowing them to live a good life. For European standards however, our salaries are laughable. In the spirit of transparency we give an indication below of what should be expected. When starting, you'll earn between 6000-8000 rand monthly, depending on your qualifications, skill set and experience. After one or two years it is possible to get up to 14.000 rand. There is a performance bonus system in place that can add to those amounts. We entered data for a 'senior person in an office' in a wage indicator website, to show we are paying above average. It compares our wages with those of thousands of others in South Africa.

Our employment philosophy
The 'Tailor Made Safaris' Employment Philosophy:
The Company has a philosophy of employing ‘co-workers’ instead of ‘employees’. An employee does only what he is asked, is unavailable when overtime is required, has no problem with taking annual leave in the busy season and taking sick leave when he wants to attend a concert of their favourite band. Employees take, while co-workers give. Co-workers give their best and want to work. A co-worker feels the spirit of the company, wants to do his best for a common goal (succeeding as a business), works when work needs to be done and takes pride in working for The Company. They help build, they help decide, and consequently, they will be rewarded by sharing in The Company’s success. In return, The Company strives to treat their co-workers with respect, give them sufficient opportunity for growth, offer them performance bonuses and incentives. The Company will strive to make their co-workers feel like they are part of a team, part of a bigger picture. In the end, The Company feels that any employment agreement is the start of an enjoyable, mutually beneficial relationship, rather than just an ‘I buy some of your time’ agreement.
