Windhoek is the capital and the largest city of Namibia and is situated between the Khomas Highland, Auas and Eros Mountains. Windhoek is the geographic centre of the country and is the city where most safaris travelling through Namibia begin. Despite the large increase of population over the last few years, the city centre is extremely clean and mostly trouble free. Tourists often mention the cleanliness of the city, and call it the most un-African city. During the day Windhoek has a European cafe culture, German cuisine dominates, but Namibian influence can be found in the quantity and quality of meat on offer. A well-constructed and regularly maintained road network provides access to the majority of towns, nature reserves, parks, safari lodges and tourist destinations in the country.
