Lower Zambezi National Park is a beautiful and unspoilt reserve south of Lusaka. The main reason the Lower Zambezi National Park has been largely untouched by humans is the lack of roads in the park. Only a 4x4 with an experienced driver can penetrate the inlands and only in certain parts of the year. The only good options for tourists are by river or with a small aircraft. The lack of roads has an added advantage that there are not many tourists crossing your path. Travellers canoeing on the Zambezi River can expect to see a lot of wildlife on the riverbanks where they come to drink.
Kiambi Safari Lodge
Kiambi Safari Lodge is beautifully placed at the confluence of the Zambezi and Kafue rivers. Although it is not placed directly in the game reserve, it is part of the Chiawa Game Management Area of the Zambezi Valley. Kiambi Safari Lodge has several different accommodation options for travellers. The luxury chalets come with much needed air conditioning and ensuite bathrooms. The thatched chalets have their own private veranda with a scenic view over the Zambezi River. Another option is the self-catering chalets, which sleep up to eight people, so are perfect for families or groups. Kiambi Safari Lodge has two swimming pools available for guests along with a restaurant and a bar that offers a stunning view over the Zambezi River. Children of all ages are welcome at the Kiambi Safari Lodge.
Gwabi River Lodge
Gwabi River Lodge is situated on the tranquil banks of the Kafue River. The accommodation consists of 9 ensuite air-conditioned chalets. These rooms can normally accommodate two adults or four people in a family arrangement. At the main lodge, guests can enjoy a drink at the bar or have a refreshing dive in the pool. The main lodge is also where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. Guests that want to explore the area via the river can rent a boat or canoe with a guide to take them downstream. These trips can be booked at the reception and are anywhere between two hours and three days in length. The lodge is accessible all year long. Children of all ages are welcome at Gwabi River Lodge.
