Ithala Game Reserve offers stunning mountainous scenery combined with excellent wildlife viewing. Although lions are absent the rest of the Big-5 can be found here. The park offers the chance to see eland, Africa’s largest antelope species, tsessebe and red hartebeest. These three antelope species are rarely found in other reserves on the Elephant Coast. The rugged beauty of the park is a magical backdrop for a self-drive safari. Ithala is also famous for frequent sightings of black and white rhino. For keen birders it offers an excellent array of birds, once again different species compared to other parks in the Elephant Coast. Ithala offers a great destination for self-drive safaris, with several routes of differing lengths available. Please do note that some of the routes however, are in need of maintenance and are currently only suitable for high clearance vehicles such as SUV's. Guests looking for a guided experience or travelling in a smaller vehicle can book and join a guided game drives at the camp, which are reasonably priced.
