Once a quiet fishing village, today Hermanus is world famous for its incredible whale watching. In whale season you can see Southern Right whales here, sometimes within 10 meters of the shoreline! The whales come to South Africa to give birth in the warmer tropical waters and to mate. The protected bays of Hermanus and Walker Bay are a favourite of the whales and therefore have a high concentration of whales. Not only can you watch the whales from the shore, you can also choose to book a whale watching boat tour for even better sightings. In the village there are terraces with stunning views over the bay. Hermanus is a pleasant town with several souvenir shops and art galleries. Around Hermanus there are beautiful hiking trails that you can walk.
