The Eastern Shores of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park is located between Lake St. Lucia and the Indian Ocean. This southern section of the World Heritage Site boasts a beautiful landscape of lakes, wetlands, swamp forest, coastal forest, high-vegetated sand dunes, and the beautiful beaches, including the famous Cape Vidal. Visitors can enjoy the unique experience of a game drive and relaxing at a beautiful beach in the same day. There are few places in the world that you can photograph rhino and kudu with the magnificent Indian Ocean as a backdrop, you can even witness the majestic Humpback whales as they traverse the coastline. As a wetland park the Eastern Shores has some key species to look out for, namely waterbuck, reed buck and hippo, but guests will also enjoy seeing black and white rhino, kudu, zebra, buffalo and hyena to name a few. With no lions present the Eastern Shores also boasts a higher density of leopard, so be sure to keep a look out for this illusive cat during your visit. Visitors use St. Lucia town as a base to explore the Eastern and Western Shores of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Here you can organise activities such as game drives, night drives, bike rides, snorkelling and bird watching.
