Colchester was named after the oldest town in England. Historically Colchester was rivalling Port Elizabeth as main harbour town for the region. Today the small town is surrounded by nature and hasn’t been affected by urban expansion. The famed sand dunes can be dated back 100,000 years and are home to a great variety of wildlife. The dunes are also a great place to go sand boarding. A boat trip on the Sunday River is an excellent way of exploring the surrounding area and enjoying the local birdlife. Colchester is situated very close to Addo Elephant National Park and is therefore the perfect base to explore the park.
