Clanwilliam is a quaint little town found in the northern section of the Cederberg Wilderness. The Cederberg Wilderness is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, which is a World Heritage site. The Cederberg Mountain range, that runs approximately 100km through the Wilderness area, is famous for its richly coloured jagged sandstone outcrops and strange rock formations. With a protected area of over 170,000ha the Cederberg is one of the most undisturbed areas in South Africa. The 18km long Clanwilliam Dam is a stunning body of water that offers the opportunity for many water sports including water skiing, canoeing and fishing. Along with the stunning views and fabulous array of flora and fauna, the Cederberg is also famous for its amazing rock art, painted by the SAN Bushmen. The rock paintings exhibit the legacy left by the SAN hunter-gatherers that lived in the Cederberg thousands of years ago.
