Mkhuze Game Reserve, established in 1912, forms a portion of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Best known for its diversity, Mkhuze Game Reserve boasts over 420 species of bird, the Big-5 (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhino), African wild dog, cheetah, giraffe, hippo, hyaena, warthog, and a variety of antelope species. Also in the reserve are award winning game-viewing hides, superbly positioned above waterholes to provide an incredible vantage point of thirsty animals who come to drink and bathe. For visitors looking to experience the bush on foot, Mkhuze Game Reserve offers an enchanting guided ‘Fig Tree Forest’ walk, enabling visitors to delve into the exquisite, unspoilt fig forest found along the Mkhuze River.
Situated in the heart of Mkhuze Game Reserve, Mantuma Camp offers a selection of two to six bedded chalets and safari tents, each equipped with a kitchen and private bathroom. There is a take-away restaurant on site, but as it is not always open, we recommend guests plan to self-cater during their stay at Mantuma Camp. Designed to blend in with nature, the chalets and tents are of a basic 3-star standard; they are clean and comfortable but in no way luxurious. Mantuma Camp is perfect for guests looking for accommodation within the park. Children of all ages are welcomed at Mantuma Camp.
